The past year has been, for me, a rabbit hole of sorts. I’ve enjoyed some pretty amazing highs, the greatest of which was getting married this past June. There have also been way too many moments of unsure self-reflection, career path crises, and a number of other fairly okay problems I should feel lucky to have. Fortunately, my life revolves around taking and (semi) teaching classes, so I get a nice cushion of blank space between now and mid-January. I’d like to say I’ll use this time to do some adventurous reading, reset the dials, and refocus myself on being fully-immersed in what I’m passionate about… but I probably won’t. I’ll probably crawl back down the rabbit hole of time squandered aimlessly on the internet. Like most of you, Reddit has become one of my favorite places to avoid being productive. One sub has become particularly interesting for me: /r/brokengifs. I can’t look away from it.
I’m honored that Troy thought anything I had to say would be worth taking up space in Little Fiction’s year-end reflections. With that, I give you the top ten creepiest broken gifs I saw in 2015. I did not create these. I’ve simply curated them, and included the handle of the Reddit user who posted them.
May 2016 bring you nothing but progress. Even if it hurts.
Schuler Benson is the author of the short story collection, The Poor Man’s Guide to an Affordable, Painless Suicide. He is also the author of a forthcoming Little Fiction title called “Komodo 90210” — we shit you not. His top ten list will go down in history as the first gifs to ever appear on our site. Will they be the last? Who knows. But we know there won’t be any quite as creepy.
